This is a recipe for one of our favorite winter breakfasts. My mother taught me how to make this lovely dish how she learned from her grandfather when she was young. Enjoy this warm Irish treat!
Fill a big pot up about halfway with warm water and bring to a boil, boil shredded cabbage. Begin frying the bacon cut into 1 inch squares in a frying pan. Do not drain grease. Once cabbage has become very soft, strain and mix cabbage, the ground pepper, and the olive oil in with the bacon and bacon grease. Fry until cabbage has slightly browned.
You can add minced garlic for an extra bit of taste!
