I got this recipe from my grandmother - a soft, chewy sugar cookie - great anytime or when cut-out for Christmas cookies.
Preheat oven to 325,
Mix sugar and butter. Add sour cream, eggs, and vanilla.
Combine baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, salt, and about three-quarters of the flour.
Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, adding remaining flour as needed to make a stiff dough.
Roll out on floured board to 1/8" thick. Cut with cookie cutters.
Place on a greased cookie sheet, and bake at 350 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes.

This is Steve's Great Grandmother Wigand's recipe. For Christmas, you can sprinkle colored sugar before baking. Or, you can frost and decorate cookies after they've been removed from the oven and allowed to cool. For general use, cut using a glass, sprinkle with granulated sugar, and press a raisin in the center before baking.
