Dutch apple pie with delicious crumble topping and heaping amount of apples.
Preheat oven to 375ยบ. Combine apples, sugar, 1/2 cup flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and 1/4 butter in a bowl. Add sour cream if desired. Pour apple mixture into pie shell (store-bought or homemade).
Topping: In a small bowl, combine 1 cup flour, brown sugar, and cut in 1/2 cup butter til about pea size. Sprinkle over apple mixture. Cover edge of crust with foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 30 minutes.
Strongly recommend an apple peeler corer slicer, takes a lot of time out of cutting the apples. Once apples are cut you can toss with a bit of lemon juice to prevent browning, totally optional!
A deep pie dish is ideal, but can be made in a normal pie dish or split into 2 pies. Definitely depends on preference, there is a lot of filling. If using a smaller pie dish you may want to put a cookie sheet under to catch dripping from the pie.
