Great French recipe!
Do not wash cut potatoes. Wash the whole peeled potato. Cut lengthwise and put in pan with milk, butter, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Boil, then bring heat down and cook another 10 min,
When potatoes become creamy, add cream. Cook another 10 min,
Turn heat off and add garlic. Put in oven dish and let cool down so that tastes merge.
Cook 180C/350F 30-40 min. Add gruyere if desired.
