Suggest a better descriptionWash and sort beans. Soak overnight or bring water, beans and baking soda to a slow boil. Let simmer 2 minutes and soak for one hour. Discard water and add 6 cups stock. Add potato, bay leaf, and garlic to beans and stock. Simmer beans for 1 1/2 hours or until nearly done. Add onion, celery and carrots. Simmer 20 minutes or until tender. Add tomatoes simmer 10 minutes.
