Heat the olive oil and add the garlic and saute until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and let stand (about an hour).
Mix cooled pasta with tomato mixture. Spread half into a 9x13" dish and let cool a little. Spread half the cheese and half the basil over this layer. Repeat with remaining tomato mixture, cheese, and basil.
