Pour tomatoes with their juices into food processor and puree until smooth.
In medium saucepan over medium heat, cook tomatoes, cream cheese, heavy cream and butter for 10 mins. stirring occasionally, until all is melted and thoroughly combined.
Add basil and season with salt and pepper.
Continue stirring for 5 mins or more until completely smooth. If you wish, you could also use an immersion blender to make short work of smoothing soup.
Pour into bowls/eat.
