Grandma Tudor's Christmas Kolache recipe tweaked again 2015/16 by Auntie Anne
In medium bowl, mix warm milk with sugar, Add yeast to dissolve , And let stand until it grows a bit.
In glass bowl melt lard and butter in microwave, Add cold milk to cool it down.
In the large mixing bowl, beat eggs, add salt, baking powder, and lemon rind. Mix well, and add butter and lard mixture, And mix till blended, then add yeast mixture and blend again. Add 4 cups of flour and mix on high for four minutes. Change beaters to dough hook, and add remaining flour. Knead on high for another six minutes. Dough will be very sticky, But should pull away slightly from the sides of the bowl. Transfer dough to a large buttered bowl, To rise till doubled.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and divide into four pieces. Roll out one piece at a time ,(covering the rest so they won't dry out) to about 1/3 inch thickness and cut with biscuit cutter. Place on parchment covered or SIL pat cookie sheets about 3/4 inch apart. Brush with beaten egg ,to make shiny, And let raise tell double.
