This is a family bread recipe that we have every holiday.
Pre-heat oven at 350 degrees.
Mix all dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Pour in yeast mixture, butter, milk and egg and thoroughly mix together until you have a consistent dough. Place dough on a floured counter and knead dough for 10 - 15 minutes. Place kneaded dough in a in a large lightly oiled bowl and flip the dough over a few times to coat the it with the oil. Place a clean dish towel over the bowel and let rise for about an hour or so, it though double in size. Punch the dough back down and let rise again. To make sure the bread is done rising you can lightly push on the dough with a finger. If it is still springy continue to let rise. If it leaves a dimple then it's done rising.
For Monkey Bread (pull apart bread):
Follow the above directions. Melt about 1/4 of cup of butter. Roll out dough to about 1/4 of an inch and cut into 1" X 3" inch wide strips. Dip dough strips in the melted butter and place in a baking pan. (I prefer to use a bunt pan) let rise one last time and bake for about 45 minutes to an hour. it will be a nice golden brown on top when done.
