This is a South African version of a donut
METHOD
Place sugar & spices in a pot.
Pour boiling water over & bring to a boil on high
On '1st boil', remove from heat & allow to cool
Set aside
Mix dry ingredients together, in a large bowl
Make sure spices are evenly distributed in flour
In a measuring jug add water & milk together.
Dissolve sugar in the liquid
Place butter in the mixture & warm in the microwave until warm,& butter is melted
Must not be hot (or it will kill the active ingredients in the yeast & B.Powder)
Mix all together, until dough is quite sticky(donot knead, or you'll kill all the rising agents)
Use about 2 tbsp oil to make a 'ball' of the dough
Cover with cling wrap, & leave to rise for at least 4 hours, pref overnight
Once dough has risen, roll into a long roll
cut into pieces & leave to rise again, for 45mins
Heat lots of oil in a high pot on high, & fry by turning constantly for an even golden brown look
Dip hot koeksisters into tepid syrup & roll immediately in coconut-sugar mixture
