Subtle spice and mixed dried fruits create a different flavor profile for this popular standard. Don't confuse the fruit in the recipe for the dried fruit bits you use from the baking aisle. Look for a packaged mixture of regular sized dried apples, peaches, apricots and plums.
1. Trim fat from meat. Brown meat in hot oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cut any large pieces of dried fruit into chunks.
2. In the slow cooker, place dried fruit and onion wedges. Place meat on top of onions. Sprinkle with allspice. Pour apple juice over meat.
3. Cover; cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hour or high heat for 4 to 5 hours.
