Pop popcorn in crisco and butter and remove any unpopped kernels
Cook sugar, white syrup, vinegar and butter until it "Spins a Fine Hair"
Stir in ? teaspon of baking soda.
Poor over popcorn in large buttered kettle and stir from bottom
Form into balls
I learned as a kid to pop popcorn in a large sauce pan 1/2 cup at a time with just enough crisco to halfway cover the kernals and about 1 tsp of butter. It's an art.
A fine hair is when you stick a fork into the boiling mixture then remove it and a 4" or longer wispy hair forms where it drips off the fork.
