You can substitute shredded cabbage for all or part of the sauerkraut. turkey smoked sausage can also be used. First made for Kevin 1-22-01.
Conventional Oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drain sauerkraut. Add water and drain. Add water and drain again. Place in a large casserole. Top with onions and potatoes. Cut sausage into serving peices (about 10) and place on top. Cover and cook for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender.
Microwave method: Cook potatoes and onions on high for 5 minutes, stiring once halfway through cooking time. Drain sauerkraut. Add water and drain. Add water and drain again. Top with potatoes and sauerkraut. Cut sausage into serving peices (about 10). Place over sauerkraut. Cover and microwave on high for 7 minutes, rearranging halfway through cooking time.
