These are slightly messy and time consuming, but totally worth the effort.
We freeze ours, because they dry out quickly. You can eat them straight from the freezer and they are still delicious.
Preheat oil in deep fryer to 350-400F.
In a medium bowl, combine yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let proof for 10 minutes.
In a separate bowl, mix milk, butter, sugar, nutmeg, salt, eggs, and potatoes until sticky. Let cool.
Combine milk mixture and yeast mixture. Add flour until dough is slightly sticky to touch. Let rise until doubled (1 hour).
Roll out dough and cut, using a doughnut cutter.
Deep fry until brown. Let cool on a rack for 5 minutes.
For glaze, stir together icing sugar, butter and enough hot water to make a runny paste.
Glaze while slightly warm and let glaze drip off while sitting on the wire rack.
