This is from the "A Taste of Kansas City - Then and Now" cookbook...
Core and cut apples into nickel-size pieces. Toss thoroughly in orange juice (this will help to keep the apples from turning brown). Place apples in an ovenproof baking pan and place 1 inch of orange juice in the bottom of the pan. Liberally sprinkle the top of the apples with cinnamon and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, combine oats, sugar and butter, mix thoroughly. Distribute the topping equally over the apples and bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 1 hour. Check to see if topping is browning to quickly. If it is, cover loosely with foil.
NOTE: Can be made the night before, covered and stored in refrigerator. Warm slightly before serving topped with vanilla ice cream.
