Suggest a better descriptionIn a large bowl, mix together the warm water and yeast. Add the milk, sugar, salt, butter, allspice, oats, raisins, and chopped apple. Stir. Add in enough bread flour to make a dough that follows the spoon around the bowl.
Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead for about four minutes, adding more bread flour as needed until the dough is firm and smooth to the touch. Place the dough in a medium, greased bowl.
Turn dough over in the bowl so that the top is also lightly greased. Cover with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for one hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead it for five minutes or until the bubbles are pushed out of the bread dough. Shape the dough into a loaf and place in greased 9 x 5 inch bread pan. Cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
Bake the bread at 375 degrees F for 40 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when the top is tapped. Remove bread from the pan and let it cool on a bread rack.

If you are having problems getting the yeast to rise, check your water source. Soft water and heavily chlorinated water can kill bread yeast and prevent the bread from rising. You can use bottled spring water in place of tap water for bread baking.
The milk in this recipe can be replaced with soy milk, almond milk, or coconut milk. Apple juice can also be used in place of the milk to give the bread a stronger apple flavor.
Vegan butter can be used in place of the butter or shortening. Coconut oil is also a great alternative to butter in yeast bread recipes.
