1/4 ts Black Pepper; ground
1 md Yellow onion; chopped
1 Bay leaf
6 oz Very lean ham; diced
2 1/2 c Water
1 1/2 c Split peas; cleaned
1 stalk celery; thinly sliced
1 md Carrot; peeled, halved
1 14.5-oz can chicken broth

(less then 1gram fat per serving....husband liked it and he IS NOT a soup- man!) Combine all ingredients in 3-quart pot, and bring to boil over high heat. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the peas are soft and the liquid is thick. Very easy to make and great for leftover ham. I had to add more liquid to reheat the next day to keep it from being too thick. Tasted perfect!
