Mix together flour, butter, baking powder and salt with pastry blender until crumbly. Add ? cup sugar and well-beaten eggs to mixture and crumble again. Put 2/3 mixture into 9x13" baking dish and pat down gently. Peel and core apples and slice over dough. Mix ? cup sugar, cinnamon, cloves and cornstarch and pour over apples. Top with remaining dough in crumbly manner. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. While still warm, drizzle with mixture of icing sugar and lemon juice.
Original recipe was 1/2 tsp cinnamon & 1/2 tsp cardamom.
