Suggest a better descriptionWhisk together sugar, cornstarch and salt (off the heat). Gradually whisk in milk, dissolving cornstarch.
Warm milk mixture, temper eggs, then add back to stove. Whisk constantly until first large bubble forms and sputters. Reduce heat to low; whisking constantly, cook for 1 additional minute. Remove from heat; immediately pour through a sieve into a bowl. Stir in butter and vanilla. Let pudding cool slightly.
Slice bananas. Alternately layer cookies, pudding and bananas. Covering bananas completely to avoid browning. Refrigerate until set, at least 1 hour, covered with plastic wrap.
Serve topped with whipped cream, crumbled cookies, 1 whole cookie and sliced bananas.
