**I ALWAYS add a package of seitan for additional flavor and amazing texture! Make sure it is the CRUMBLED kind. Chorizo flavor is my favorite. Can be found in the vegan / health food section of most stores, such as target, pick n save or hyvee. Saute before adding to mix. I like the sautee in 2 tbsp bbq sauce and 2 tbsp maple syrup for extra flavor.
**Add favorite bbq sauce to mix for BBQ black bean patties.... I usually just eyeball it... maybe somewhere between 1/4 - 1/3 cup.
Let sit for at least 2 hours for the oats to soften.
Bring large non-stick pan to medium heat, spray generously with nonstick spray.
One by one, form mix into patties no larger than the size of your palm (and about as thick as your thumb or 3/4") and carefully place in pan. The mix will feel wet but will firm up upon cooking. Don't overcrowd pan to avoid complications when flipping! Cook each side until preferred doneness, maybe 4-5 minutes per side?
140 calories per patty. Very low in fat and super filling!
