in saucepan combine blueberries and water. Bring to boiling and reduce heat. Simmer, covered, 5 minutes.
In small bowl, stir together sugar and cornstarch. Stir in blueberry mix. Cook and stir over medium heat until thick. Cook and stir 2 minutes more. Set filling aside.
Preheat oven to 350. Stir together flour, sugar, baking power and soda. Cut butter into mix until coarse crumbs form. Make a well in the center of mix and set aside.
In small owl combine egg, buttermilk, and vanilla. Add egg mix all at once to flour. Stir until just moist. Spread half batter in 8x8x2 pan. Spoon filling over batter. Drop remaining batter in small mounds on top of filler.
Stir together flour and sugar. Cut butter until mix is coarse. Sprinkle over cake and bake 40 minutes until golden.
