In a 9 x 13 inch pan, layer the 2 pounds of hash browns. Mix together in a bowl; salt, chopped onion, sour cream, 1/2 cup melted butter, pepper, cream of chicken soup and cheddar cheese. Put on top of hash browns. Mix in a seperate bowl the 1/4 cup of melted butter and crushed corn flakes and put on top of cheese mixture. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 to 40 minutes.
