Mix the butter and the garlic powder.
Place the french bread on a baking sheet. Slice french bread every 1", being careful not to slice all the way through the bread. Butter the inside of the bread at each slice. Place in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 5 - 10 minutes, until crust is at the desired crispiness. Serve hot.
