Preheat oven to 350F
Grease tube or bundt pan
Cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add salt to flour. Add buttermilk and flour alternately in thirds (1/3 cup buttermilk, then 1 cup flour, etc.) Add soda to last 1/3 cup of buttermilk.
Bake at 350F for 70 - 90 minutes.
