Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 9"x13" casserole dish
Mix brown sugar, salt, flour and butter until crumbly.
Reserve 1 cup of mixture for topping.
Add egg to remaining mixture.
Pour buttermilk, vanilla and baking soda into mixture and stir just enough to incorporate.
Pour mixture into dish and sprinkle on topping.
Bake for 30 - 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
