Drain and then chunk the pickles. Rinse well, dry and return to the jar. Boil together the sugar, water, vinegar, onion, allspice, cinnamon stick, cloves and red pepper. Pour over the pickles and then refrigerate. Note: If you use Mt Olive Hot and Spicy dill pickles you won't need to add the red pepper flakes.
