Mom's best
Chop onions with cuisinart.
I like to cook this meal in a pot with lid that can go on the stovetop first and then in the oven.
Use low heat to sauté chopped onions in oil. Wash chicken pieces, salt them and sauté them along with onions.
Chop green pepper with cuisinart. Add to pot carefully stirring on low to medium heat altogether for about 10 minutes.
Take a mugful of water to the stove . ( This step is very important.)
Sprinkle paprika all over chicken on low heat ,stir throughout the oil for less than a minute. ( It needs to touch oil, but can get burned easily) Pour mugful of water into pot , add some salt , squirt from tube, stir and bring to a simmer with lid on. ) If possible, move to oven for an hour on 350 degrees.
For thickening the sauce, Use small jar with lid and cold wate , add couple of tablespoons of flour and shake well. At the end of cooking time, stir this into sauce and let thicken in the oven . Stir sour cream into sauce and enjoy with homemade noodles or pasta cucumber salad, pickles or green salad.
This can all be done in the pressure cooker also. Medium heat under pressure for 15 minutes and then thicken sauce but don’t put back under pressure.
HOMEMADE NOKEDLI (dumplings)
Heat large pot of water with some sal .
Take a large bowl. Beat 1 or 2 eggs in. add water and whisk. Add salt and scoops of flour. Work with a large wooden spoon add water and flour alternately to get desired amount and thickness. Work well. This can also be done with cuisinart with dough attachment. When cleaning bowls, soak in COLD WATER. Brush off excess dough.
When water is boiling, start cutting noodles with special tool. Work fast so all noodles are cooked at the same time for about 10 minutes.
Drain and rinse with cold water in sieve. Shake all water out. Place in bowl that can be micro-waved and stir in some vegetable oil and salt. This way it can be easily heated up in a hurry.
