This is exactly like my grandmother made 60 years ago. Everyone always asks me to make it for potluck or any eating events. I have learned to make it in large quantities.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine, peaches, 1 cup of sugar and water in saucepan , bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside.
Put the butter in a 3 quart baking dish and put in oven to melt (do not burn)
Mix remaining cup sugar, flour and milk in bowl. Mix slowly to prevent lumping. Pour mixture over melted butter, do not stir. Spoon fruit on top, gently pouring in syrup. Batter will rise to top during baking. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes.
