1. In pot saute onion, garlic and carrot in olive oil, stirring till soft. Add potatoes, water and broth; bring to boil then simmer 10-15 min till potatoes are soft.
2. Meanwhile brown sausage, transfer to paper towel.
3. Transfer cooked potatoes to blender with slotted spoon, adding 1 1/2 cups cooking liquid and puree till smooth (hold cover) or use hand blender. Return puree to pot and add sausage, kale, and red potatoes.
4. Simmer, covered, 10-15 min till potatoes are done. Season.
