Pound cake from Addy's Cookbook
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease and lightly dust the bottom and sides of a tube pan.
Separate the eggs.
Cream the butter and sugar together.
Beat the egg yolks until they are well mixed and then stir them into the butter/sugar, add the vanilla and mix well.
Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together into a large bowl.
Add the flour mixture, a little at a time, to the butter/sugar/egg mixture, stirring until you have a smooth batter.
Beat the egg whites until they are stiff peaks.
Gently stir a quarter at a time, the egg whites into the batter.
Spoon the batter into the tube pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Turn the temperature down to 325 degrees and bake for 25 minutes more.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes then turn cake over on a serving platte and the cake finish cooling completely.
