This is a quick 1 skillet comfort food dish, with Pakistani roots. Delicately spiced, can be modified to your taste.
Heat oil over medium heat in large skillet. Add onion;saute till golden. Add garlic and saute for 1 minute. Add chili powder, cumin, and turmeric;cook for about a minute before adding tomatoes and 1/4 cup water. Cook a few minutes,stirring frequently,then add beef. Cook at least 10 mins, till beef is browned and water is almost gone. Add blackeyed peas and cook for 3-5 mins, stirring frequently. Add the remaining 1/4 cup water, lower heat, cover and simmer till water is gone and you can see the oil. Remove from heat, sprinkle with garam masala, and serve. Good with rice or pita bread.
