Suggest a better descriptionCombine buttermilk through garlic cloves in a large bowl. Stir until sugar has dissolved.
Place chicken in a large deep bowl. Pour buttermilk mixture over chicken and cover bowl with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 24 hours. Remove chicken and discard liquid. Pat chicken dry.
Light one side of the grill to medium heat (300-325 degrees). Place chicken, skin side up, over unlit side, and grill, covered with grill lid, 40-45 minutes. Move chicken, skin side down, to lit side of grill, and grill 3-5 minutes or until skin is crisp. Remove and serve.
(To bake: preheat oven to 375 and bake covered with foil for 15 minutes then remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes or until skin is nicely browned and meat temp is at least 165 in the thickest part of the meat.)
