Have you ever wondered why subs from the deli taste so much better then the ones you make it home? This week's recipe will show you how. A note that basically everything in this recipe can be substituted but you should mak
So this will read more like a guide then a recipe since we're gonna be learning why deli subs taste the way the do!
The first key step is to have good sub bread. You have so many options here so make sure you have something that won't fall apart easily.
Our second key step is moisture. Part of the reason our sandwiches don't taste the same way is that we make our sandwiches too dry (or at least don't do enough). To counteract this, our sandwich will be full of moisture between the sauce, tomatoes, pickled onions, and how we're seasoning our lettuce. You can switch these things around, but make sure it's still lubricated.
Fat carries flavor. There's lots of food science behind this, but basically if you want to make your sandwich stand our, it needs some level of fats in it which most typical homemade sandwiches don't have. We our making a sauce with mayo, you could also do a simple Vinaigrette (some olive oil, red wine vinegar, herbs and spices for example). But that's our third tip
I hinted that we're seasoning our lettuce which is our fourth key, seasoning. Salt and pepper all your veggies. That's how you make these differences. We will be putting a little vinegar on our lettuce too, although if you need more moisture you could soak it in the Vinaigrette hinted at before.
Our fifth step is to be careful in how you organize it. Basically make sure everything isn't falling apart. Most importantly, do not put your tomatoes in the middle.
Finally, wrap your sandwich. This actually adds to the flavor and makes your sandwich stick together better then you'd expect.
Don't skip any of these steps and you'll have an amazing sandwich every time.
