1. Heat oven to 350. Grease a 3 qt. ring pan.
2. Sift flour, soda, and salt. Toss 2 T of flour with dates, raisins, and nuts.
3. In large mixing bowl with mixer at medium speed, cream margarine, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and cocoa. Gradually add sugar, beating until fluffy. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each one.
4. At low speed alternately add flour and applesauce. Stir in date mixture.
5. Turn into ring pan. Bake 55-60 mins. This cake is best made a day ahead.
