1. Take a large mixing bowl and add the self-raising flour. Sprinkle some cinnamon and add the caster sugar. Mix everything together.
2. Cut the butter into cubes and using your finger tips add them to the flour to make a breadcrumb-like consistency (it can take a few minutes, especially if the butter is just out of the fridge).
3. Create a little hole/cavity in the center of the mixture. Take one cup of buttermilk and add a drop of vanilla essence to it. Pour it down in the cavity in the centre of the bowl and mix. Add the other 1/2 cup of buttermilk and mix well. The dough shouldn't be too dry.
4. Make chips with the chocolate bar and mix them well into the dough.
5. Add some flour to a clean surface and work the dough for a minute. Using your hands, flattened the dough until it is about 2cm thick.
6. Using a shape or simply a glass, create the scones to the size of your liking. Place them on a baking tray (lightly greased with some butter) in rows. Let the scone touch each other on each row, that will give them a nice shape.
7. Bake them in a pre-heated oven at 190°c for about 13 minutes. Let them cool down on a wire rack.
