Cream butter and shortening. Gradually add sugar, beating well until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour and baking powder. Add to creamed mixture alternating with milk, and mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and lemon.
Bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 350F for 1 hour 15 minutes.
