Suggest a better descriptionPlace the oil, onions and garlic in a deep skillet over medium heat. When the onions begin to sizzle add a pinch of salt, the red pepper flakes and lemon zest and saute until the onions begin to wilt. Add the rice syrup and reduce the heat slightly. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions have browned, about 15 minutes.
Spread the onions evenly over the bottom of the skillet. Slice the kale into bite-size pieces and lay on top of the onions. Season lightly with salt, cover and cook over low heat until the kale is wilted and deep green but not mushy, about 5 minutes. Stir gently to combine the kale and onions and transfer to a serving platter. Serve with the lemon wedges.
