Brown meat in oil. Add everything except vegetables. Bring to boil, turn down heat and simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Add vegetables except peas, simmer 20 minutes, add peas and cook 10 minutes more. If desired thicken with slurry made of 1/2 cup of water and 2 Tablespoons flour, stirred into stew and boiled for 2 minutes more.
