Stove Top Barbecue Chicken

Very tasty, tender chicken, and easy to make.


1/2 cup Flour
2 pounds Boneless, skinless chicken breasts; or thighs
1/2 cup Butter; one stick
16 ounces Kraft Thick and Spicy Barbecue sauce; Brown sugar flavored is our favorite
1 cup Water

Original recipe makes 6



Heat the butter in a large sauce pan on medium high heat and coat the chicken with flour. Brown the chicken quickly on both sides in the butter until just golden brown. While the chicken is browning, mix and heat the barbecue sauce and water in a smaller saucepan. When the sauce is warm and the chicken is browned, add the sauce to the chicken, stirring gently to coat the chicken in the sauce. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for about an hour or until the chicken is tender.

This is a favorite recipe of my wife and I! The chicken has an incredible flavor and it's so soft, it practically falls apart with a fork. The whole house also smells amazing while it's simmering. I use lots of real butter and have no problems. The butter gives it an even better flavor. I love eating a few small pieces of chicken after it's browned in the butter.

I've made this four or five times ~ always with ONLY real butter, no oil ~ never had any problem with the butter burning. Delicious every time.

I browned the chicken in olive oil and butter pouring off any excess before adding sauce. It was delicious!

Very Good! I used bone-in chicken though, and still didn't have to cook it an hour. Probably that long a cook time for boneless chicken is a bit much. Next time I'm going to make this in the morning and reheat for supper as, with so many dishes, its flavor improves as it sits a while.

This was really good! I did what some others did&cut the boneless chicken breasts into nuggets. Only thing I have a problem with is my breading became soggy&I'm not sure how to fix that?. Other than that it was overall delicious!!!

I used boneless breast cut up in nugget chunks, added 2 Tbs Johnnys seasoning and 2 Tbs Cayenne Pepper to the flour, chicken broth instead of water, and spicy BBQ sauce, came out perfectly spicy for our family, my 6 year old twin boys love it and asked for extra sauce on their plate, thanks for posting
